Funeral Poems For A Cyclist: "THE TOUR DE UNIVERSE"
"THE TOUR DE UNIVERSE"
I'm under starter's orders
For the Tour de Universe
With the weight of the world
Off my shoulders
I should be quicker ...
Than a turbo-charged hearse
With no more fear
Of personal injury
Nipple and jock itch
Doesn't matter now
If I corner too fast ...
And end up in the ditch
With dreams of a yellow jersey
Cycling & time trials for evermore
Just cheer me on my way now ...
Do feel free to clap and roar
Michael Ashby, Sidmouth
Sincere thanks to wonderful Sandra Norburn who brought about this poem. I dedicate this poem both to her late father ... and also to the 'serious cyclist' for whom we created this poem.
